First, I want to thank everyone for their patience and flexibility with the weather-related issues! As you know, the contest was postponed to Wednesday, 1/23 at 3 PM. Our bus will begin boarding at 1:30 PM and will leave about 1:40 PM. Schedule and other contest info is linked below.

A Note about Contest Logistics and Expectations:

This is addressed in the contest info and FAQs, but I wanted to go over it here as well.

  • Judge's Comments/Feedback

  • You will perform in front of one judge.

  • At the end of the performance, approach the judge's table for really brief comments (verbal comments is normal, but they're going to pare them down for time's sake).

  • Listen to their feedback politely and avoid asking questions or offering explanations or comments - again, we've done this in the past, but for time's sake, we need to keep it short.

  • Thank them and leave the room. DO NOT shake their hands - this is a direct request from judges because of germs.

  • We'll receive the ballots with the written feedback at the end of the night.

  • Times, Centers, & Spectating

  • BE EARLY TO YOUR CENTER. This is NO wiggle room for waiting for a spectator to arrive like there normally is.

  • Designate one person to be in charge of your ballot.

  • Double-check your centers and performance times for any changes.

  • Normally, I encourage you to make it to as many of your team's performances as possible, but our schedule is crammed tight and there isn't always a lot of warm-up time between performances. Your PRIORITY is your YOUR performance and preparing for it. I will not be upset at anyone missing a performance because you're warming up.

  • That said, if you are NOT warming up, or are done performing, please support your team, especially those who perform later. This is one reason why I encourage taking the bus there and back - leaving early without a prior commitment can show our teammates that we're not invested in their success. Too many times, I've comforted performers who were upset because no one stayed to watch their event. Everyone deserves an audience.

  • Clothing

  • 90% of what you wore to WaMaC was perfect!

  • Shoes: dress shoes, please! No tennis shoes, Converse, Uggs, winter boots, etc.

  • Clothes: worry more about professionalism than matching. Judges have been commenting on appropriate clothing choice, such as wearing dresses if you know you'll end up on the floor. If there is ANY CONCERN about seeing up it, down it, or through it, add layers: undershirts, tank tops, leggings, very opaque tights. If you can't move or shift position while sitting or standing without fear, layer up or change!

I think that's it. If you think of something I didn't cover, let me know!
